How to conduct the perfect video interview

💪!!The perfect video interview!! 💪

ZOOMEETEN, TEAMS-CALLING, GOOGLE MEETEN, FACETIMEN all words that entered our vocabulary the last 2 years.
Some argue that video meetings and interviews cannot replace a f2f conversation, at least not entirely; you miss out on things like body language, the small off-topic conversations, etc. And, they are right!
Nevertheless, the video-meeting and the video-interview in recruitment is here to stay.

In recent meetings and interviews, with clients and candidates, the topic ‘home working’ always pops up. It has proven its value in recruiting. They are easy to set-up (several free tools readily available, you can have the meeting from nearly everywhere, anytime). Thanks to the ease of use, they usually can be scheduled quickly (easier to find a time-slot convenient for both parties, no waste of time in commute). In essence, they help reduce time to hire.
On both sides, you can demonstrate your professionalism by the way to handle these interviews.

Nevertheless, it’s easy to really screw-it up!

To help you make the most of your interviews, we’ve created this easy 3 step approach for a professional video interview.

As with any meeting or interview, preparation is key! Next to analyzing candidate and company, preparing questions and answers make sure you follow these 3 steps:

STEP 1 CHECK YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Make sure there is sufficient light, the right type of light, no backlight
Make sure there is no or limited ambient noise. So, close your windows, if possible, do the interview in a separate room and close the door, put a sign at the door not to be disturbed. Keep pets away from your desk.

STEP 2 PREPARE AND TEST YOUR EQUIPMENT
Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Test your mic and camera. Check the volume on your headset. Check your background for the interview.

STEP 3 BEHAVE AS IF YOU THE PERSON IN PERSON
Wear professional attire. Switch off your mobile, switch off all notifications on your pc (incoming mails, WhatsApp, and Messenger messages, …) so you do not get distracted during the conversation. Don’t check your mobile phone during the interview.

Video interviews are here to stay. So, make the best of it!

Good luck!
